Some Thoughts on Poland

The intense, tragic, recent plane crash resulting in the death of Poland’s President, his wife, and a number of high-level officials from Poland’s government, military, religious and academic institutions en route to a 70 year commemoration of the ‘Katyn’, Soviet massacre of thousands of Polish officers and intellectuals in 1940, is something which defies imagination as one tries to sense the anguish and questioning of fate and destiny taking place in Poland at this time.

During my time of living, traveling in Europe I visited several countries in the Eastern Bloc including Poland and Russia and my sympathies go out to the individuals I met in Poland and to the Polish people as a whole.

As I am often inclined to do, I have tried to use the language of Astrology to gain some insight, some understanding of what could be the message, lesson, or intended effect of such a tragedy.

I have had clients in the past bring to me the Astrology charts of individuals who were close to them, who had died suddenly and tragically. Most of the time the more intense transits or ‘Astrological exams’ were taking place in the charts of the people left behind. The people who died are now in another place. It is the people left behind who are being tested on their faith, who have to try to make sense of it all.

In my Astrological investigation into this recent tragedy I have looked at several charts; the ‘births’ of Poland in 966, 1921, and 1989, the birth of the Soviet Union in 1917 and the Russian Federation in 1991, and of the Polish President Lech Kaczynski who died in the crash. There is enough material here for an entire book and I promise you this will not be a book length newsletter. I will be looking at the obvious key messages which can be seen here.

For those of you who are not really fluent in ‘Astrologese’ there will be a bit of Astrological discussion initially, and I will try to present this as clearly as I can. The Astrological discussion will lead to a summation, which I believe everyone can understand

I have several books I hope to write before I exit the planet. One is a book about the sociological, psychological, spiritual and Astrological qualities of all of the countries of Europe. This newsletter may some day be a part of that book.

In looking at this horrific event there is the begging question: “Is there some kind of Astrological parallel between this Polish tragedy in April 1940 and this one in April 2010?” There is a rather intense ‘yes’ answer to this question.

As I have mentioned in recent newsletters, there is at this time a Saturn/Pluto square going on in the sky overhead. The Ascended Master Hilarion says that when an individual is born with a Saturn/Pluto aspect, deep-seated changes must take place in the individual’s life:

“In some manner an attitude, outlook, way of thinking or approach to some area of the life experience must undergo a radical alteration, one which in almost every case will be forced upon the individual by events or circumstances beyond his control. The signs and houses holding the two planets will give an idea of the change that is required.”

Hilarion says that Pluto will generally show the area that needs to be transformed and Saturn will show the means by which that transformation will take place.

For example, in my book The Astrological Karma of the USA, I pointed out that there had been a Saturn/Pluto opposition taking place right on top of the Sagittarian self-image of the United States on September 11.

At the time of the Katyn massacre in 1940 there was also occurring, up in the sky, a Saturn/Pluto square, as there is now. The square in 1940 obviously coincided with the start of World War II.

In his book ‘Nations’ channeled from Hilarion, Hilarion says that the Poles were the true heroes of World War II, because they stood and fought against overwhelming odds.

A cursory look at Polish history reveals a very difficult and often tragic dateline, having been invaded from the East, West, North and South. If we look at the birthchart for Poland in 966 we see that she was born with the Sun at the 1st degree of Taurus, in positive aspect to Jupiter, which would bring in faith, optimism, and religious belief. The Jupiter is in Pisces bringing in further empathic, spiritual, mystical energies. It was the baptism of King Mieszko I and the adoption of Christianity in 966, which is considered the birth of the Polish Nation.

In regards to being born a Taurus, Hilarion says that someone who is Taurus is someone who has, in previous lives, developed a quality of love at a very high level. (Taurus is ruled by Venus) Their challenge is to be able to give that love unconditionally. If they have difficulty giving that love it may instead turn back towards themselves, focusing on their senses or an over-valuing of money or possessions.

At the time of the Katyn massacre, and the German and Soviet invasions, Saturn was at the 4th degree of Taurus, three degrees from the Polish Sun in Taurus. Pluto was at the 1st degree of Leo, exactly square to the Polish Sun in Taurus. This was the tragic loss of their territory and possibly of their existence as an independent nation by the Saturn/Pluto intense viciousness of the Soviets and the Nazis.

Or, it was a test and deepening of their ability to hold on to their love, their love for Poland and for being Polish, even with the loss of their Taurean earthly base.

In the original 966 Polish birthchart there is, additionally, a very intense cardinal “T-Square”. This involves Mars in Cancer in the corner, square to Mercury in Aries and square to a Neptune/Uranus conjunction in Libra in the other corners. The Neptune/Uranus conjunction is opposite to the Mercury in Aries completing the T-Square.

Without digging up and analyzing the historical details this tension may relate to, one can simply say it involves conflict in one’s birth and early life, at odds with a revolutionary religious understanding, and an aggressive moral code. One could perhaps summarily attribute this to the establishment of Christianity by the sword.

In the birthchart of the current Polish Republic, established in 1989, there is also a cardinal T-Square, aspecting the original one in the 966 birthchart. The 1989 T-Square has Venus in Libra at the corner, square to Jupiter in Cancer, and square to a Uranus/Saturn/Neptune conjunction in Capricorn in the other corners. Closing the T-square is an opposition between the Uranus/Saturn/Neptune conjunction in Capricorn and the Jupiter in Cancer.

It is the Uranus/Saturn/Neptune conjunction, which was occurring at that time, which serves as the Astrological signature for the sudden (Uranus) dissolution (Neptune) of Communist rule in the Eastern Bloc and the Soviet Union (Saturn).

Interestingly, both the 966 chart and the 1989 charts have Uranus/Neptune conjunctions, an event which occurs rarely in Astrology. Both births involve revolutionary freedom combined with a spiritual, religious energy. Indeed the Catholic Church played a major part in the Polish resistance to Soviet rule in Poland.

The Venus at the corner of the T-Square in the 1989 chart is in the 11th House. This is what Hilarion says regarding Venus in the 11th House: (For fellow Astrologers: Hilarion’s interpretation of the 11th House is his most non-traditional pronouncement)

“When the planet of love is found in the house of former enemies, the significance is clear: That the individual should seek ways of expressing affection for those with whom he feels an echo of the old hatred or rivalry carried over from an earlier life. “

The healing of this karma with former enemies, at the corner of this T-Square, is a major part of the ‘curriculum’ for the modern Polish nation.

In the months leading up to the current tragedy there was the preparation for this Polish delegation to visit the Katyn forest in Russia. Russia has been, historically and continually on numerous occasions, a former enemy of Poland’s. The trip was to commemorate the Soviet Russian travesty against Poland in 1940. The Katyn massacre has never been fully, deeply, processed in the Polish/Russian relationship, largely because of a denial by the Soviets of their responsibility for the massacre until the new Russian Federation emerged in 1991.

The commemoration, which would have taken place this month could have, at least subtly, exacerbated the tensions which exist today in the Polish/Russian relationship. Instead this traumatic event has lead to Vladimir Putin’s sincere, emotional hugging of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk following his arrival at the scene of the tragedy, and the Russian declaration of April 12th as a national day of mourning for the pain and loss of the Polish people.

Many news media commentators have already pointed out that there is the irony that this recent tragedy could lead to a great improvement of Russian/Polish relations. Indeed, there will be a much deeper processing, in both Russia and Poland, of the wounds inflicted in the Katyn massacre and the difficult history of the Russian/Polish relationship. The Saturn/Pluto square, active in the sky at this time, is aspecting now and in the months to come the Venus, Uranus/Saturn/Neptune, Jupiter T-Square involving karma with former enemies. It has obviously manifested with a very Saturn/Pluto intensity “forced upon the individual by events beyond his control”. A Saturn/Pluto intensity which was at work at the time of the original massacre/tragedy in 1940 as well.

I could also launch into the charts for the Soviet Union and the current Russian Federation and look at where the Saturn/Pluto square is hitting them, but then this newsletter would approach a rather unwieldy size. Suffice it to say, there are things there which also show some of their lessons at this time. It is interesting to note that Russia has recently had to deal with terrorist attacks against her, and now she has to deal with her own legacy of misguided terrorism perpetrated against others.

I pray for Poland, that she can grow and heal from this, and that she can keep the faith which has allowed her to survive being at the crossroads of conquerors.

And I pray that we may all, as nations and as individuals, learn to heal and do as Christ advised when he said: ‘Love thine Enemies.’
