Dear Tiger Woods or:…… Capricorns Beware

Dear Tiger Woods,

If the following happens to reach your eyes, I offer it to you with hopes that it may help you to understand more clearly the circumstances of your life, the choices you have made in the past, and the choices you may make in the future.

Sincerely,
Steffan Vanel

Dear Friends,

I wanted to say some things about Tiger Woods’ Astrology Chart back in November/December when his exploits hit the news, but I was too busy working/traveling at the time. Today’s public statement by him has given me another opportunity/inspiration to share some of my insights.

When you look at Tiger’s chart there are the easily recognized components of his personality. There is the Sun in Capricorn, someone who has accomplished a lot in material terms in previous lives, giving them a lot of ambition to make something of themselves in the ‘eyes of the world’ in this life. This also gives the Capricorn a lot of self-reliance.

Tiger also has a Virgo Ascendant, giving him a self-image with a capacity for precise attention to details.

He also has Jupiter in Aries of which Hilarion says: ‘Always instills a super-abundance of vital force and energy.’

These would be obvious factors whose influence in combination would put him on the path to becoming the world’s most successful golfer.

What, however, would explain his engaging in secret activities that would result in his drop from an 88% public approval rating to 32%?

There are a couple of the usual factors around sexual indulgences, such as Venus in Scorpio (As per Hilarion):

Venus here is badly placed by sign. It is very difficult for the pure love feelings to manifest for anyone with this placement. Instead, the love nature tends to be clouded with physical urges, and the resulting passionate nature can and often does lead to sorrow through the loss of the one for whom the affection is felt. The essential lesson here is to realize that love can be complete without having to manifest at the physical level as well. The emotional side of love is an integrated thing and does not need the physical side. This is not to say that the two must be divorced – quite the contrary. When a true love/affection relationship exists for a man and a woman at the purely emotional level, it is natural that it should wish to express through the physical body as well. To deny such an expression will actually damage the emotional side in the long run. The trick is to see that the emotional side of love does not depend on or draw any strength from the physical side.

Many people, however, have Venus in Scorpio.

There are two configurations in Tiger’s chart which, I feel, really explain Tiger’s capacity to compartmentalize his life into totally different characters, and to naively think that these incongruous worlds would never come crashing into each other.

One is his Uranus/Saturn Square. I have written to a great extent over the last couple of years how the whole world has been dealing with a Uranus/Saturn opposition going on above us in the heavens. I have paraphrased this tension as ‘Freedom vs. Responsibility.’

Tiger’s Uranus/Saturn square shows that he is dealing with this kind of freedom vs. responsibility conflict within himself throughout his whole life. The Saturn end of this tension is in the house of his relationship to humanity, society, and the collective. Saturn rules Capricorn. This is the hard-working, dedicated, self-controlled Tiger Woods we saw.

The Uranus end of this tension, the planet of the unusual, the unconventional, sudden change out of the blue and freedom from old patterns which have outlived their purpose is in the 2nd House, of which Hilarion says:

The placement of Uranus in the second suggests an unconventional approach to affection, and sudden changes in the financial fortunes if the planet is afflicted. Especially, the native will become embroiled in at least one rather bizarre love-involvement in his life, which will leave him greatly changed.

Well Tiger has also been prone to some rather bizarre relationships which are leading to some results quite likely to leave him ‘greatly changed.’ And, talk about ‘changes in financial fortunes.’ It has been estimated that the revelation of Tiger’s extra-marital affairs have cost him from $5 to $12 billion in potential revenues. In February we entered the Chinese ‘Year of the Tiger’. Think of the irony of all of the promotional marketing that Tiger could have cashed in on this whole year using that angle.

The Uranus/Saturn opposition, which is going on in the sky above us right now, was/is hitting on Tiger’s Virgo self-image of himself, and his 7th House of partnership and marriage. An added note to the Virgo Rising Self-image from Hilarion:

There will be some tendency to see oneself as having high standards of behavior (whether true or not).

This seeing of himself as having high standards of behavior whether true or not could enable to Tiger to, in his own words, think the normal rules of behavior did not apply to him. Saturn crossed this Ascendant moving into his house of self-image in September of last year, the beginning of having to ‘get real’ with the way that he sees himself.

These aforementioned factors, however, are not the configuration which really flares in my face when I look at Tiger Woods’ chart. They are not the configuration which has the most intense Astrological exams bearing down upon it now and in the years to come either.

Now we come to the real nitty-gritty, what, to me, really explains the orchestration of such a major fall from grace, self-destruction, and the specific karmic lessons to be learned from it.

It will take me a while to really sort this out, so please bear with me.

Tiger Woods has a Pluto/Sun/Jupiter T-Square (two squares of tension joined by an opposition of tension). This T-Square is configured in the houses of self-image, of home/family/childhood, and of partnership/marriage.

Transiting Pluto, up in the sky, moved into Tiger’s house of home/family/childhood in 2005. It will conjunct his Sun in 2012, Square his Pluto in 2014 and square his Jupiter in 2016.

This is likely to be the most intense period of this man’s life.

The Natal Pluto end of this tension (in Tiger’s chart) is in the sign of Libra, the sign of partnership and marriage. Saturn, still moving through his First House of self-image, went into Libra on October 30, 2009. Soon after, there was the appearance of the National Enquirer article about an alleged affair, which then led to the quarrel with Elin, and the accident, and all of the lurid details which came tumbling out afterwards.

The Sun end of this T-square of tension is in Capricorn, which I already mentioned, but the Sun is also in the 4th House of which Hilarion says:

The Fourth House of a birth chart has to do with the concept of “sanctuary”. This portion of the diagram governs all that which provides security in the world for the person whose chart it is: his home, his family, his early life, his parents. The Sun in this position denotes one for whom these areas are of primary importance.

In Karmic terms, this solar placement designates one who must pass through many episodes of insecurity in life, as the supposed mainstays of his self-confidence and contentment are chipped away at by events. He may lose his family, or home, or job, or a parent with whom he has particularly strong ties (whether of a positive or negative nature). Such a loss would have, for the person with this Sun position, a more disconcerting or devastating effect than it would if he had a different solar placement. The karma thus served arises from action in past lives when similar anxiety or trauma was caused to others.

This Sun, relating to childhood, is square to Pluto: so there is the likelihood of some deep, intense, hidden energy in tension with, but dissociated from, the home situation. This Sun is also square to Jupiter. The Jupiter in Aries, that previously mentioned fount of energy, but which, when afflicted by a square:

In affliction there can be difficulty in controlling and channeling this energy constructively.

The Jupiter is, additionally, in the Seventh House of Partnership and Marriage.

This configuration of tension between Pluto, the Sun, and Jupiter is relatable to the revelation that Tiger was emotionally devastated as a teenager when his father, Earl Woods, was discovered to be having an adulterous affair. This would be the deep, intense, hidden energy of Pluto in tension with, but dissociated from, the home situation, and affecting the marriage. This kind of experience would have a more devastating effect upon someone like Tiger, with his Sun in the Fourth House and therefore his strong attachment to home and family.

As mentioned earlier, Tiger has the Sun in Capricorn. Along with the self-reliance and ambition comes a difficulty in having faith, surrender, and vulnerability to a Higher Power. His Sun in the 4th House, again according to Hilarion, essentially needs to do the same:

The lesson of this solar position is simple to state: look not to the world for security. The only true sanctuary is the light of truth within the soul. All other lamps finally grow feeble and fail to light the way. God alone is the rock to which the discerning soul anchors his frail boat.

This Pluto/Sun/Jupiter tension was part of Tiger’s childhood mythology/programming, but it leaves him with a Pluto/Sun/Jupiter configuration of tension

Later Tiger thought he could be the Capricorn, responsible, self-reliant husband and father in the 4th House of home and family, and yet have a self-image of himself as an intense, sexually powerful, secret, hidden Plutonian Lord of the underworld.

The exaggerated, difficult to control, Jupiter in Aries energy is in the Seventh House of which Hilarion says:

Jupiter in the seventh when afflicted shows a tendency to exaggerate some aspect of the pair-bond or marriage relationship. The over-emphasized aspect could be security, or the banishment of loneliness, or the sexual gratification which a pair-bond offers. This can often be perceived by studying the nature and placement of the planets afflicting Jupiter.

In this case, this pronouncement could lend credence to the suspicion that Tiger used his marriage to create an exaggerated front of social propriety to deflect attention and awareness, even within himself, from his hidden Plutonian proclivities.

Tiger also has positive aspects to this Jupiter of which Hilarion says:

Well aspected in the Seventh, Jupiter promises happiness in marriage – what used to be called a “good match”.

With transiting Uranus moving into his Seventh House of partnership and marriage I would say it doesn’t bode well for the continuance of the marriage. On the other hand there could be some great Uranian freedom from old patterns in the marriage, patterns which have outlived their purpose. Actually, that freedom from old patterns is likely to occur, whether they stay together or not.

With all of this it is obvious that Tiger has forced Elin to experience the same kind of betrayal and abandonment that he himself went through in his childhood. The unconscious is always trying to become conscious and will set up situations that force us to become more in touch with ourselves.

In taking a quick look at Elin Woods’ chart it is interesting to note that she is also a Capricorn, born 2 days after Tiger. One thing I can say about two people in a relationship having the same Sun sign, especially when the Suns are close to each other like theirs, is: if one of the individuals in the relationship has more difficulty owning the energies of their Sun sign, they will tend to let the other person live it for them, projecting that part of themselves upon the other person in the relationship. In this regard, Tiger’s huge self-reliant capability for success in the eyes of the world could have served as a great hook for Elin’s own desire for Capricornian worldly success.

We don’t have an exact birthtime for Elin, but if she was born later than 12 noon she probably has a Cancer Moon opposite to her Capricorn Sun. This would fit even more into the mythology. The Cancer Moon person idealizes home and family and sanctuary, similar to Tiger’s Fourth House Sun, the Fourth House relating to the sign of Cancer. So she was home with the kids, i.e. Cancer Moon, while Tiger was off being the ambitious worldly successful Capricorn Sun.

Through this, Elin is going to have to own her own Capricorn Sun ambitious, self-reliant energy. She will also have to learn surrender to having faith in a power outside of herself.

There is a lot more which can be said about Elin’s chart and the dynamics between her chart and Tiger’s. That would be material for a whole new article. Maybe if there is a dramatic public divorce, or renewing of their vows in the future I will work on that one.

The second half of the title of this article is ‘or: Capricorns Beware!’ As I have noted in previous newsletters I had predicted in my book that Pluto’s entry into Capricorn in 2008, remaining there until 2025, was likely to pull the rug out from under any tendency to over-rely on concrete, material, financial reality for your security or identity and could wreak havoc with the world economy.

Between 2008 and 2025 everyone with the Sun in Capricorn is going to have Pluto, the planet of complete death and rebirth, going over their Sun, their soul essence identity of themselves.

What Tiger and Elin are going through is a Capricornian ‘morality play’ for the world, just one manifestation of an undermining of seemingly stable, successful, self-reliant, but perhaps non-spiritually surrendered persons and institutions by a deep, hidden, but totally destructive/transformative Plutonian regenerative power. A drama for us to see that even ‘having it all,’ the wealth, the fame, the beautiful wife and family is not enough if you are not at peace within yourself and in connection with your soul.

Pluto has not yet reached Tiger’s Sun/Pluto/Jupiter T-square. That is still on its way. The next years are not likely to be very easy for him. It may well affect his ‘game.’ He will, however, be a much better man for it.

Blessings,
Steffan Vanel
