Norway and Anders Breivik

Making sense of such horror as occurred recently in Norway is not a very pleasant task. And yet, by understanding some of the lessons and energies involved there is hope that awareness and consciousness can help us to stay with greater faith and trust as we humans try to work through the often-painful lessons of this earth plane.

What Astrology sign would we expect to be that of an arrogant, narcissistic, violent madman like Anders Breivik? Perhaps a Scorpio like Charles Manson? Or an Aries/Taurus like Hitler?

Aquarius would not have been my first guess, someone who has, in previous lives brought groups of people together and encouraged feelings of love and brotherhood among them.

And yet, Anders Breivik is an Aquarius. Obviously an Aquarius run amok.  However, as we are entering into the Aquarian Age, I look at this man and his story and can feel how there is something in the deeper archetypal world being played out here.

First, a basic description of Aquarius. Having those experiences in previous lives of encouraging unconditional love and brotherhood they will have a potential connection to these qualities in this life, which, however, makes them a little bit ahead of their time. The world isn’t quite ready to open to that kind of love and openness. I remember Astrologer/author Liz Greene saying once: “An Aquarian will lend you their last five dollars, but if they come to you and ask to borrow your last five dollars, and you don’t give it to them, they are crushed.”

Aquarians don’t easily realize that not everyone operates at their same level of openness.

As a child, Anders Breivik, even though of substantial physical strength himself, was often the one who was protecting and standing up for victims of bullying. Additionally, one of his best friends as a child was a Muslim. These experiences would be fitting for an Aquarian.

So what went wrong?

We don’t have a specific birth time for him, however, we can nonetheless see that the major tension in his chart is his Sun/Mercury conjunction in Aquarius being squared by Uranus, the planet of sudden rupture or change, and openness to the unusual and unconventional.

The Sun in a chart often represents the father in one’s childhood mythology, and the square to Uranus is relatable to his parents’ divorce, and the later ruptures in Breivik’s relationship with his father. In fact, Breivik had not spoken to his father since 1995.

As a child his father acted out the sudden Uranian rupturing energy and Breivik suffered from that. However, in his teenage years he had what I offhandedly call an FTS, F__k that s__t, and he became the rebellious, rupturing Uranian energy at odds with the Aquarian group consciousness of Norwegian Society. Breivik was known for nighttime exploits with friends including graffiti spraying rampages for which he was eventually arrested.

This Uranian tension would also exacerbate the lesson side of Aquarius. Hilarion explains it this way:

The Aquarian knows instinctively that the universal nonexclusive love is possible, and this often introduces a problem in relating to others at the level which mankind has reached. The Aquarian tends often to seek to approach the ideal he holds within him, and this can lead to a shoving away of the exclusive closeness that marriage implies or a tendency to try to include too many within the circle of acquaintances of friends. The partner then thinks the Aquarian is cold, while the friends can conclude that the Aquarian is too strung-out in his associations. The lesson for the Aquarian is to try to live in the world as it is, and to compromise the ideal brotherhood concept for the sake of becoming close to at least one or two other individuals. Brotherhood starts with two shaking hands. The Aquarian ideal must be nurtured first in groups of small numbers (even two)_ before the expansion to include the race can take place. – Pg. 12, Astrology Plus, Hilarion.

The cool Aquarian tendency is further enhanced by Breivik’s Mercury in Aquarius. Again, according to Hilarion:

The afflicted Aquarian trait of affectional coolness will also be present to some extent. – Pg. 41, Astrology Plus, Hilarion

This is why the ruptures from his father, frustrations with disharmony in Norwegian social relations, and his own unconventional rebelliousness would push him further into a cold detached mental place incapable of being able to connect on a deep personal level with anyone.

Starting in 2006, Neptune, moving through Aquarius, started to square Breivik’s Uranus, and then, more recently, conjunct his Sun and Mercury. This is where he would really start to look for those who feel that they are victims by those believed to be victimizers. This would bring in a delusionary, mentally detached sense of Neptunian self-less service and self-sacrifice for the benefit of society, all condoned, inspired and intellectually validated in the cold, detached, Aquarian/Uranian world of the internet, and its hate fomenting blogosphere of victim/victimizer personalities fighting their delusionary war to save their threatened collective social group values and very existence.

As I said earlier, Anders Breivik was an Aquarius run amok, but so is the socially networked world that helped to orchestrate his madness.

As we enter this new Aquarian world of interconnected group consciousness: if it isn’t predominantly based on love and brotherhood and a breaking down of the boundaries between us, thus opening to the New Millennium of Peace and Harmony for a united Global Family, then it will be prone to move into the shadow, fear-based side of Aquarian group consciousness where cohesiveness and alignment to a collective brotherhood remains in being dependent upon a us vs them mentality.

Norway

Astrologically, Norway is a Gemini, who thinks she is a Virgo, pretends she is a Taurus, and in her childhood she had to be a Leo.

The two points which are really being hit at this time in their chart, however, are her Neptune in the Aquarian 11th House of group consciousness, and her Saturn in Pisces, the sign ruled by Neptune.

I remember meeting a Norwegian at a party in Barcelona on the evening before the vote in Norway as to whether she should join the European Union or not. I ended up taking out my Tarot Cards with him and we asked: “What would be the results if Norway entered the European Union, and what would be the results if she did not?”

I don’t remember the exact cards, but I do remember that it was a much better card if she did enter the European Union. However, in the vote the following day, she chose not to.

Now, it has probably worked better for her economically etc. but that choice would be indicative of a resistance to a surrender of their autonomous collective identity to the greater collective of Europe

Personally, I didn’t have much of an opinion one way or the other. I simply noted what the cards stated.

And yet, that fear and resistance to a surrender to the greater collective is resonant with what Anders Breivik has violently pushed into their faces, in a horrendously distorted and extreme version of that kind of sentiment.

At the same time, Norway’s Neptune in the 11th House gives her a tremendously open, humanitarian spirit, resulting in a lot of concern for humanity, resulting in a high percentage of Foreign Aid, and an openness to immigrant refugees and multi-culturalism.

This Neptune is opposite to Uranus, however, and this can create a fear of being suddenly victimized and left too vulnerable if they are too open and surrendered. Lately Pluto has been conjuncting the Uranus and opposing the Neptune, with Anders Breivik being the latest entity to play the role of Pluto in their drama.

But Norway also has transiting Neptune in the sky conjuncting their Saturn in Pisces. It was exact on July 8, just days before the shooting.

This is what Hilarion says about Saturn in Pisces:

In Pisces, Saturn is very badly placed, Pisces is watery, changeable, emotional and unconcerned with practical matters. Saturn is hard, stable, extremely practical and suppressive of emotions. Thus one would expect a conflict between the different urges of these two symbols, and that is precisely what results. The individual tends to be in a tug-o’-war between hyper-emotionalism on the one hand, and the urge to be cold and rational on the other. Sometimes the conflict is between the inner traits and the kinds of experiences and people one unconsciously attracts. For example, there could be the situation where an individual with this placement is himself cold, practical, rational and reliable, but he continually finds himself dealing with emotional, unstable and impractical people. In effect, the emotionalism is also inside himself, but it is confined to the unconscious sphere and must be projected out upon others in order to be realized. - Pg. 70, Astrology Plus, Hilarion.

Norway has only two planets in water signs in their whole chart, one being this Saturn in Pisces. Obviously, the Norwegians are not known to be the most overly-emotional people in the world. With their airy mental Gemini Sun and Virgo self-image they would tend towards the practical, rational, logical side of Saturn in Pisces.

But with this recent Neptune conjunction, and the resulting incredible emotional pain and suffering it seems to have wrought,  they area having to really go into the Pisces side of this Saturn/Pisces configuration.

I am happy to hear that the Norwegian Prime Minister has stated that they will continue to encourage an open accepting society. I think that now they can, and will have to, do that with more than cool, rational logic, but with greater heartfelt emotional sympathy, compassion, and the kind of vulnerability that either leads to deeper trust and surrender, forgiveness and unconditional love, or deeper into the victim/victimizer program.
