My Travel Blog: 1st Stop
1st Stop: Massachusetts
I have been finding it curious that here I am starting the longest journey of my life, at least distance wise, and my first stop is in the area where I grew up. I have come back to my roots and can feel how connected my body and instincts are to these plants, these trees and the air and climate here. It does make me a bit nostalgic and homesick.
What also comes to my mind is my belief that when you leave where you are from, you make a big sacrifice. When you leave from where you grew up, you cut your roots, and you will never really belong anywhere ever again.
I remember visiting an old high school friend who stayed in the small town I grew up in. His wife is an art teacher in our old school. And I can feel how his roots, his sense of connection and belonging to a place, is so deep and so strong compared to mine.
And yet I wouldn’t want to sacrifice what I’ve gained by having lived in and visited so many different places and nations. I’m just aware of the sacrifice I’ve made.
Taurus and the East Coast
Another thing I can feel here is the Astrological energy of the East Coast. A friend of mine I was in touch with many years ago, who was a devotee of the noted Astrologer, Dane Rhudyar, shared with me how Dane Rhudyar had figured out twelve zodiacal zones of the planet.
The zones I am the most familiar with are the Aries and Pisces zones because the line dividing those zones passes down through the Cascade Mountains in Washington and Oregon, and the Northern Sierra mountains of California.
These zones are quite large. The Aries zone, for example, goes from the Cascades/Sierras to Ohio. This is the region of the courageous pioneers, the hot deserts and dry prairies, and the most aggressive historical conflicts with the Native Americans, as well as the most well known Native American warriors.
The Pisces section of the planet is mostly Pacific Ocean, and the Northern California, Oregon and Washington coastal areas where it tends to rain a lot. I also feel that when I am on the Pisces side of my state of Washington (as opposed to the Aries side where my house is) things are more emotional, kind of mystical, but can also be rather confusing and vulnerable, and delusionary or over-emotional, making me want to get back to the Aries side to ‘dry out’, psychologically and physically.
What is interesting to note is that the Aries/Pisces line separates San Francisco and LA. San Francisco is Pisces, i.e. fog, music, spirituality, and drugs for altering consciousness. LA is Aries, once described to me as: “That’s enough about me, now lets talk about me.”
The Burning Man Festival is in the Aries section, naturally, but with an import of a lot of San Franciscan, coastal Pisces energies. One could say the same thing about the ‘dream factories’ of LA.
The East Coast is Taurus. One could say: money, money, money. Wall Street, New York Bankers, the former World Trade Center. It’s all in the Taurus section of the planet.
Now someone who is Taurus is someone who has developed a quality of love at a very high level. Their challenge is to be able to express that love unconditionally. Lacking that ability that love will turn back towards themselves, focusing on their senses or an over-valuing of money and possessions, material security and nice things.
Tauruses can be like cows in a field, enjoying their comfort, not liking a lot of change. In a generalized sense one could say that the East Coast is everyone who didn’t want to give up or risk what they had to make the venture out west. Of course the Blueblood wealthy of the East Coast already had it all.
And, even though it is true that people on the East Coast can be very hung up on money and status, they also have more of an emotionally, bonded quality, usually within clans, but even in the general society, they can have an emotional bond which feels more solid to me sometimes than the independent Ariens or, at times, spacey Pisceans out west.
I will try to look up the other zones of the Globe, as I am about to travel through all of them. If anyone knows the locations of the12 Rhudyar Zodiacal zones and wants to email me that information I would appreciate it.
Also, as I gave Astrological portraits of the candidates in the last Presidential election I plan to do the same this time as well. Something for you to look forward to.
Blessings,
Steffan Vanel
