Dear Friends and Clients,

I have been quite busy with readings by phone lately, while trying to work on my next book, and write an article about Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. I, therefore, didn’t plan to go into the Eliot Spitzer case, salacious and curious as it is.

I did, however, end up seeing his chart and learning of what may be a secret agenda being played out between Spitzer and the Bush administration. Following those discoveries, I decided to go ahead and put my two cents in.

It’s a bit curious to be sending this out on Easter Weekend, but it does have a bit of the themes of betrayal, crucifixion and, hopefully, resurrection.

There were two things that immediately came to my mind here. One is the theme I wrote about in my book about the US birthchart. The part about America and its relationship to sexuality which I observe as a puritanical repression vs. a Plutonian obsession.

The other factor, which would relate to Eliot Spitzer more personally is the fact that the occurrence of Astrological Karma indicating a tendency in previous lives to over-emphasize the physical aspect of love shows up in about 65% of charts, in one way or another. It is a major downward spiral for humanity. I knew that Eliot Spitzer had to have one of these Astrological sexual karma indicators. Sure enough he has Jupiter in Scorpio of which Hilarion says:

In Scorpio, ruled by Mars and Pluto, Jupiter promotes an excessive interest in the sensation/sexual outlet for energy. Afflicted, Jupiter here will cause the mind to play ceaselessly with the sexual fantasies and will tend to cause the individual to seek out this form of experience to an excessive degree. The major lesson is to moderate and control this tendency. In positive aspect, Jupiter in Scorpio endures an ability to do well financially, and gives a strong sex drive.

Now that last part, where Jupiter positively aspected gives a strong sex drive, shows that Hilarion himself is not a prude. The question is whether passion is a servant of love or is love a servant of passion?

One significant thing about Spitzer’s Jupiter in Scorpio is that it is unaspected by any other planet in his chart. It dangles there by itself. Astrologer/author/Jungian Analyst Liz Greene has said that an unaspected planet will create a situation where the energies of that planet will tend to live in the unconscious, not easily integrated into conscious awareness. When the planetary energies do get activated, however, it will tend to erupt from the unconscious and overwhelm one with unconscious irrational energy.

Last summer, when Spritzer’s liaisons with the call girl from the Emperor’s club began, Saturn was in tension with this Jupiter, forcing Spitzer to own and somehow deal with this Jupiter/Scorpio sexual energy. Saturn had started to square this Jupiter in late 2006, at which time he was probably feeling this Jupiterian sexual energy with a sense of restriction and limitation. By summer he obviously decided to do something about it.

Now, I have also seen the Astrological chart for Eliot Spitzer’s wife, Silda Spitzer. Many commentators, such as Dr. Laura, have immediately blamed Silda for not providing enough sexual activity for Eliot, forcing him, therefore, to go seeking satisfaction elsewhere.

As usual, I think the situation is more complex than that. For example, there are reasons why Eliot himself would be dissociated from his own sexuality. Silda, as a matter of fact, has Mars in Scorpio, only two degrees from Eliot’s Jupiter. I am sure the Spitzers, at least initially, had a very strong sexual tie. Hilarion says this of Mars in Scorpio:

Scorpio is ruled by Mars, and the Martian energies have full expression through this sign. In Scorpio, the Martian energies are found mainly in the sexual area and thus the lesson is to avoid sexual excesses, regardless of aspect. The worse the aspects, the harder it will be to control the sexual nature. Another point that can usually be made with Mars in Scorpio afflicted is that a karmic loss must be undergone in the life – a separation from someone with whom strong sexual ties have been forged. This is, of course, to prompt the individual to place less emphasis on the sexual outlet for the energies.

Silda’s Scorpio Mars is afflicting her Moon, so it is likely that some element of this sexual karma has played out in her childhood.

If she and Eliot do split up, it would be, with their Jupiter/Mars conjunction in Scorpio, a separation from someone with whom she has strong sexual ties.

The real emotional difficulty between the Spitzers, I believe, is the fact that their Venuses are directly opposite to each other. Eliot has Venus in Leo of which Hilarion says:

Venus in this sign afflicted will give great idealism to the love nature, but by the same token can lead to great disappointments when the flaws of the adored person begin to show up. The main lesson is to see, with eyes unclouded by idealistic self-deceptions, that all on the earth have weaknesses and failings, and to love them even with all their flaws.

And Silda has Venus in Aquarius of which Hilarion says:

Venus here when afflicted brings traits of emotional coldness and an inability to show genuine warmth and affection to another. In every case of such a placement, the difficulties in the love-life, which this trait causes, are karmic for having chilled the affectional warmth which another had felt for this person in a previous life.

One could surmise that the coolness of the Aquarian Venus would have come more into play after a number of years of marriage, when the Scorpio passion had subsided. Something that Eliot’s over-idealistic Venus in Leo would not have seen coming.

As fate would have it, industrious Astrologers have even found a birthdate for Ashley Dupree, the prostitute hired by Eliot Spitzer, and, sure enough, her Sun on the Leo/Cancer cusp is conjunct to Spitzer’s Venus in Leo. She gave life to his need to idealize a fantasy love, in opposition to the emotional coolness of Silda’s Venus.

Those of you who have had an Astrological Reading with me know that there is a ton of relevant information in a chart, which will get played out in relationships. What I’m sharing here is just to make a few salient points, tips of the icebergs as it were.

I can say that both Silda and Eliot Spitzer have components that promise and eventual happy marriage or partnership. So I would say there is hope for them.

There is, however, a deeper, perhaps darker component to what seems to be at play in Eliot Spitzer’s chart at this time.

During this period of his public outing and resignation, Pluto, planet of secret manipulation, is moving into conjunction with his Saturn, in what may be Spitzer’s Twelfth House of the deeper unconscious. At the same time, Saturn, planet of law and restriction is conjuncting his natal Pluto in what may be his Eight house of death/rebirth.

There are many components in Spitzer’s chart, which account for his dedicated commitment to take on powerful elements of corruption for the good of society. These simultaneous Saturn/Pluto contacts occurring now, however, may represent the secret forces put in motion to take advantage of Spitzer’s own secret, hidden, illicit actions to take him out of service.

It was on February 13 that Spitzer had his tryst with Ashley Dupree in the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC. On February 14 the Washington Post published an article by Spitzer titled: Predatory Lender’s Partner in Crime: How the Bush administration stopped the states from stepping in to help consumers.

In this article Spitzer clearly points the finger at Bush for his collusion, support and protection of the predatory lenders who have caused the current economic crisis. For a more detailed insight into this go to www.gregpalast.com

Spitzer was a Hillary Clinton Super delegate, and this story reminds me of how Bill Clinton’s inability to control his personal passion greatly weakened his public service. I sincerely believe that without his affair with Monica Lewinsky, we would now be witnessing the end of two terms of President Al Gore.

Now Spitzer is out of office because of his personal sexual karma.

Spitzer does have Mars in Leo, which you may remember from my article about John McCain:

This sign has its greatest problem in arrogance and pride. Mars here, when afflicted, gives a tendency to escalate arrogance into actual dislike or disdain for others. There is a tendency to have a chip on the shoulder, and to be quite antagonistic to those whose interests conflict with one’s own. Often dislikes are taken to others for no apparent reason -- merely that ‘he rubs me the wrong way’. The major lesson for Mars afflicted in Leo is to be more accepting of others, and to control the feelings of antagonism.

Eliot’s Mars is afflicted by a square to Neptune. Difficult Neptune aspects always bring into play the ‘victim/victimizer’ program. Those whom he investigated as a prosecutor knew Spitzer for his ‘take no prisoners’ approach. Where he saw those in power arrogantly victimizing others, he felt justified to arrogantly victimize the victimizers.

Spitzer also played this tension as Neptunian illusion versus Mars in Leo arrogance, enabling him to have a double life, as a moral crusader on the side of the underdogs, and, using $4,300 of his own money to ask a call girl to do things which she might not think were ‘safe.’

He was playing a dangerous game with dangerous people secretly involved, and he is now suffering the consequences.

Pluto up in the sky, however, is moving in to conjunct Spitzer’s very ambitious, self-reliant, dedicated Saturn in Capricorn, while it will be making a trining, positive aspect to his Neptune in what may be his Tenth House of work, career, role in the world. I’m predicting that we have not seen the last of Eliot Spitzer. After maybe a couple of years I think he will re-emerge in some form, perhaps with a book of some kind.

Of course one must feel sympathy and compassion for his daughters who have to endure this humiliation and painful downfall of their father. I am certain, however, that if I were to look at their charts, there would be factors revealing that their souls knew, before they were born, this would be a part of their own karmic journey. As I say, Astrology shows there is a ‘method to the madness.’

It is interesting to note that the Hillary Clinton supporter, Spitzer, is being removed for his sexual peccadilloes, creating space for New York’s first, and the nation’s third, Black Governor. Hmmm…
