Charles and Diana both have Saturn in the Second House. The karma of this placement, as presented by Hilarion, was given at the end of the examination of Diana’s
Astrological Birthchart. I present it here once again:
When Saturn is located in the second house, the meaning is like a sub-category of Saturn in the first. Again there are reverses of fortune that must be encountered, however
the department of life in which they will be met is more clearly delineated. It is that of the affections. It is the love life that will most obviously be under Saturn’s hand, and this
will manifest in love lost and fulfillment delayed. We know that many with Saturn in the second will be dismayed at this news; however we remind the reader that earth life was
not meant to be merely an adventure in pleasure or accomplishment. Each incarnating soul comes with many lessons and much karma, and the troubles in love are meant to
allow this learning and this unburdening to take place. It is best for the person with a second house Saturn to strive for genuineness in the affections, and for that philosophical
attitude which allows him to contemplate lost love with equanimity. It is attachment which brings sorrow to the human being, not the loss of a person, thing or situation. Were it
not for the attachment to the thing now lost, no sadness would be felt. Indeed, when the individual has learned to love without attachment, and to love genuinely from the heart,
then it is more likely that the pattern of loss will cease. It will have no other use then, even for the setting aside of negative karma.
Clearly Charles has had to trod his own rough road on the path of his affectional experience. This Saturn, however, is trine to Charles’s Moon and Jupiter, which are in turn
trine to each other creating a ‘Grand Trine.’ This Grand Trine creates a harmonious relationship between Jupiterian honesty, moral righteousness, and beneficence; Tenth
House Moon identification with role; and Saturnian loyalty, dedication, and perseverance.
Some of the Saturnian weight on Charles’s affectional life comes from his required dedication towards role and duty. Earlier in his life he made some rather sober comments
regarding marriage illustrating that he was well aware of the burden of responsibility which would be the lot of anyone married to him:
‘A woman not only marries a man; she marries into a way of life into which she’s got a contribution to make. She’s got to have some knowledge of it, some sense of it, or she
wouldn’t have a clue about whether she’s going to like it. And if she didn’t have a clue, it would be risky for her, wouldn’t it?’
I mentioned earlier the irony of both Charles and Diana having Venus in very positive placements, both placed in the two signs which are ruled by Venus, Libra and Taurus
respectively. This is Hilarion’s pronouncement regarding Charles’s Venus in Libra:
Venus is the ruler of Libra, and even in affliction a deep, sensitive love-nature tends to manifest. Grave afflictions will lead to indecisiveness in choosing a partner, but at worst
this will produce a minor delay in affectional fulfillment. Generally, Venus in Libra is an excellent augury of happiness in marriage at some point in life, and it may be taken that
this will come as a karmic ‘reward’ for having sacrificed much in a past life due to a deep and (usually) unrequited love felt for another. Almost always this “other” will be the
very soul with whom, in the present life, happiness will eventually be found.
I would say it is safe to say that this happy union alluded to by Hilarion is that between Charles and Camilla. The Saturnian heaviness, linked to role and duty and honor, is
why Charles and Camilla did not marry earlier in life and why an open, socially accepted marriage has, until now, been difficult. The promise of that ultimate happy unioin
seems to have finally been fulfilled.
